چکیده

Abstract. The evolution of the mean velocity and turbulence downstream wind turbine wakes within atmospheric boundary layer has been studied over past decades, but an analytical description is still missing. One possibility to improve comprehension this look into modeling turbulent bluff body wakes. There, by means streamwise scaling centerline deficit, nature inside a wake can be classified. In paper, we introduce model classical theory as introduced Albert Alan Townsend William Kenneth George. To test theories, data were obtained from tunnel experiments using hot-wire anemometry in single operating upstream turbine. First, whether requirements under which Townsend–George valid are fulfilled Based on verification apply theory. Further, framework allows for distinguishing between two types turbulence, namely equilibrium non-equilibrium turbulence. We find that at may present outer parts wake. Finally, characterize wake, compare results Jensen Bastankhah–Porté-Agel models. recent developments formalism used further Particularly, models perform better than due presence virtual origin scalings, demonstrate improving implementing parameter. also see how dissipation changes across important farms correctly.

Wind tunnel tests of a free yawing downwind wind turbine

This research paper presents preliminary results on a behavioural study of a free yawing downwind wind turbine. A series of wind tunnel tests was performed at the TU Delft Open Jet Facility with a three bladed downwind wind turbine and a rotor radius of 0.8 meters. The setup includes an off the shelf three bladed hub, nacelle and generator on which relatively flexible blades are mounted. The to...

Aerodynamics of wind turbine wakes Literature review

This report reviews the available literature on the aerodynamics of wind turbines and wind farms. Firstly, two introductory chapters are devoted to the physics of the flow around a wind turbine and the existing engineering models for blade and wake aerodynamics. The focus of this work is however on the numerical modeling of wakes. The difficulties in solving the Navier-Stokes equations are disc...

Atmospheric Turbulence Effects on Wind-Turbine Wakes: An LES Study

A numerical study of atmospheric turbulence effects on wind-turbine wakes is presented. Large-eddy simulations of neutrally-stratified atmospheric boundary layer flows through stand-alone wind turbines were performed over homogeneous flat surfaces with four different aerodynamic roughness lengths. Emphasis is placed on the structure and characteristics of turbine wakes in the cases where the in...

Simulation of wind turbine wakes using the actuator line technique.

The actuator line technique was introduced as a numerical tool to be employed in combination with large eddy simulations to enable the study of wakes and wake interaction in wind farms. The technique is today largely used for studying basic features of wakes as well as for making performance predictions of wind farms. In this paper, we give a short introduction to the wake problem and the actua...

Atmospheric Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Applications in Wind Turbine Siting

Atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnels (ABLWTs) have been used for 40 years to simulate the interaction of the wind and earth in the lowest few hundred meters of the atmosphere. ABLWTs are well-suited for investigating flow in complex terrain and have different strengths and weaknesses than numerical modeling. There are a wide variety of applications, including performing wind resource assessm...
